Investor appetite for Australian biotechnology may be improving, according to Imunexus chief executive Philippa Lewis, who suspects a prolonged slowdown in biotech funding could leave the sector poised for renewed interest.

“There has not been vigorous biotech investment for about four or five years in Australia,” Lewis told OnImpact. “My guess and hope is that there’s a bit of pent-up enthusiasm for the sector, and we’re about to tap into some of that in this next cycle. I think there are investors out there that have an appetite for it.”

Melbourne-based Imunexus is preparing for an ASX listing and expects to release its prospectus shortly before progressing through its capital raising and listing process. Lewis said the company is among a small cohort of early-stage biotechnology companies planning to come to market in the coming months.
